She said "Nah! You can do better. All those lessons I put you in? Go back and try again". I tried to explain that the song was hard and way beyond anything I could achieve but she wasn't hearing it. If you knew me in junior high you knew I was obsessed with General Hospital and the love story of Robin and Stone. Des'rees' You Gotta Be played in an episode while my favourite couple danced, and I knew I had to learn this song. At the time I was in piano lessons and it was time to choose a song for an upcoming recital. I chose You Gotta Be which my piano teacher warned me against because the song was too advanced for my current level. I wouldn't compromise and I told her I would put in the work and learn this song. It took one week. Fast Forward to 2020. I'm watching the Robin and Stone story on YouTube and I hear You Gotta Be and the same feelings came back. I haven't played keys, bass or drums in some years and it was a bit of a disappointment not being at the level I was at when I stopped playing (I know unrealistic). It's rough but I made it through and with practice I'll be back in tip top form in no time. Let's stay connected!
